Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep....

As long as I can remember, I have said Kenden's prayers for him (and with him) at night before bed. Tonight, for the first time, he said his own prayers! It was the sweetest thing...

"Jesus, thank you for my mama, da-da, Grammie, Papa, and Nanny, and all my fam-we (family) and fwends. Help me to sweep (sleep) good tonight and have a good day tomow-ow (tomorrow). In Jesus name we pway, Amen...brotha!" (I've always added the "brotha" part at the end, just to be silly)....He did such a good job saying his own prayers...I was so proud of him.

Things that Kenden Can Do!

Here we are almost a month away from Kenden's 3rd Birthday. Amazing how time flies by. I thought I would post some of the things he says and does, as well as what he loves and so forth...

*Last trip to the doctor was 2 weeks ago for a rash. He was 38 pounds, which is the 93rd percentile for weight. Dr. Feldman says this is no big deal, because he is tall for his age, so he's in proportion.

*Loves to listen to music and dance to it. He loves his "Clifford the Big Red Dog" CD in his bedroom. We shake maracas and dance to the tunes!

*Now only takes the binky (pacifier) at nap and bed time! Woo-hoo! He still totes his beloved blankie all over the place, and refers to blankie as "she and her" when speaking about blankie, but will tell you that blankie is not a girl, "she's a blankie!"

*Now sleeping in a "toddler bed", which is his crib with the front off and the toddler bed attachments on, as well as a guard rail. He does stay in his bed until we allow him to get out! He is very proud of his "new" bed.

*Still a good sleeper...goes down about 7 or 7:30, and wakes 12 hours later. Still napping in the middle of the day, although some days are hit or miss.

*Counts from 1-20, but only messes up at 11 and 12....he says "eleven-teen" and "twelve-teen"! Will also count in spanish to 10.

*Bedtime routine is not complete without Da-da coming in to the room to "bite Kenden's feet"! He is very upset if Da-da is not home from the gym to complete this last step. He also adds stuff to his bedtime prayers now~in particular, he thanks Jesus for his "friends in Radiator Springs" (if you have a son, you will know this is from the movie CARS).

* Talks in very complete sentences and remembers things that are to come for days (hence the reason we do not tell him exciting things that are coming up, such as a visit from family or a birthday party). No longer signs things due to extensive vocabulary, but does know signs for some basic things.

*Loves the following TV shows: Dora the Explorer, Diego, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Lilo and Stitch, Imagination Movers, Franklin, Cailou, Little Bear, Little Bill, and Spongebob Squarepants.

*Loves heavy machinery: Diggers, bulldozers, cranes, etc....

*He will pee in the potty when he feels like it and usually only with mommy in the room. He typically wears pull-ups and will pee in the potty at least 3 times a day.

There is so much more I could list, but I am sort of drawing a blank. I am floored in some way everyday by things he's able to say and do. It has been the neatest thing to see him grow and change! We are so blessed to have him!

Congrats are in Order for Uncle Tim and Aunt Carrie!

For about the last month, immediate family has known the very good news that my brother and his wife, Carrie, are expecting! If you've followed either my blog or theirs (or both), you will know that this has been a tough year for them in the "baby" area...this is putting it mildly. In May, they lost their 1st baby, Connor, around the 21st week of pregnancy due to complications from the baby having Spina Bifida. They had to wait 3 months to "try" again, and in the meantime, Carrie's been on 10 times the normal dosage of folic acid (which is a preventative measure, as folic acid, or the lack of it in some cases, is attributed to certain birth defects). Well, the first month they were allowed to try, bingo-bango, wah-la! PREGO! Needless to say, we are all thrilled to bits and a bit anxious, too. She's had a few ultrasounds already, and although it is early (she is 9 weeks, 3 days), things are going wonderfully~other than some morning sickness.

Please keep them and this new baby in your thoughts and prayers. If you feel so inclined to visit their blog, it is listed here on my blog, Baby Breeden to be, under my list of Friend's Blogs.

Holden Beach, NC!

Kenden and I took a trip to Holden Beach, NC to see my best friend from 5th grade on, Mary and her family. We practically grew up together, so her fam is like a second family to me. Jeff had to work and couldn't make the trip. It was a 6+ hour drive for Kenden and I, and needless to say, I was a nervous wreck about how Kenden would do in the car, cooped up for so long. He did surprisingly well, to my relief. We got there and back without a hitch. He and Michael got along pretty well, but Kenden sure was full of himself, taking toys and having a lot of trouble in the sharing department...such is life for an almost 3 year old. We celebrated John's birthday the night we arrived, played in the pool, on the beach and OBVIOUSLY took a ton of pics. I could have added many more. It was a wonderful trip, getting to see everyone and just catch up. I am blessed to have my 2 best friends in my life~Mary and Hilary (whom we missed greatly). The planning and everything that was involved with making the trip was totally worth it....

Back to School, Back to School, To Show Dad that I'm No Fool...

...Got my shoes tied on tight, hope I don't get in a fight! Back to School, Back to School, Back to School!~Billy Madison (Adam Sandler). I LOVE that movie and I can't help but think of it every year when "Back to School" time rolls around! Kenden went back to school today at a new preschool, London Bridge Baptist Church Preschool. Here is our "Big Man on Campus" (see t-shirt) ready for school this morning. He did SO good, what a relief. No tears at drop off, and a huge smile at pick up. I think this is going to be a wonderful year!

"Mom! Is it time to go yet?!"

Labor Day at Sandbridge Beach

Busy in the Sand with Cousin Brandon's Old Beach Toys!

Well, today sort of marks the "un-official" last day of summer. Most kids go back to school tomorrow, and Kenden starts his preschool at London Bridge Baptist Preschool on Wednesday. We spent our morning at Sandbridge Beach, which is right down the road from where we live. It was a beautiful day~no humidity and not too hot. As you can see, Kenden took playing in the sand very seriously, then had a great time in the ocean with Da-da. What a great summer we've had!
